Warzone is a fine example of how you can iterate on a formula and improve it, but remove the heart of something by playing it a little too safe. Blackout covered up the surgical cleanliness at its core with zombies and over-the-top items. Warzone has no such crutch, leaving it fighting the good fight, but for no real reason. Overall, it’s fun but it lacks the style of its contenders. Given a choice, I’d go for the wise-cracking idiot over the well-dressed business person every single time, and Warzone is definitely the latter. Classic Leonard.

Its looting is streamlined enough to make early moments feel fast, but Warzone also loses some of the messy magic from hobbled together loadouts by letting you drop in prebuilt ones far too easily and frequently. Still, if you're comfortable with Call of Duty's latest iteration of multiplayer antics and thrive in the stressful setting of battle royales, Warzone is a strong contender for your attention.

I think Warzone has the presence required to stay the course, and will not be surprised if this is one of the major contenders for the foreseeable future. It’s just that… hmm. I don’t want to sound downbeat here. Just don’t expect… well, you know what to expect now, don’t you? That might be the problem. The sad truth is that we’ll continue to know what to expect from games like this until someone lights the next touchpaper which sets off a genre-bending black hole like battle royale.

The one draw back to Warzone’s less-complex loot panorama is a meta that’s doubtlessly too shallow to remain fascinating. Infinity Ward has aggressively up to date Trendy Warfare since its launch final 12 months, so I’ve hope that Warzone will proceed to develop as its personal standalone recreation, consideration it is going to want if it is to compete with the likes of Fortnite and Apex Legends.

Hands on: In Warzone, you can wait a long time to pull your 'chute and you can even cut it and pull others if you decide you want to fall faster for a spell. You can’t cover as much ground as you could in Blackout with the wingsuit though, so don’t drop immediately unless you want to end up very close to where you first leap from the plane.
