There are few things as infamous as The Dark Web in the world of technology, but what is it, and why does it have such a bad reputation?

It's several times bigger than the visible web, and it encompasses a lot more than the illegal or otherwise questionable activities that it is often associated with – though there's certainly a lot of that going on, too.
